NWN: Scary Clown - Jaguar

Collin and I messed around with modifying a texture today. We downloaded some basic stuff according to the tutorial on the Bioware website Texture Tutorial: Re-Skinning Creatures. We downloaded the Model Viewer, and the additional Models available, and the DDS Compression Tool. I didn't worry about obtaining an image editor since I already have Corel 7 & 10, and Adobe Illustrator among some others, but I did download a recommended graphics conversion tool called IrfanView, because the community website recommended it for being very good at cleaning up TGA graphics files that some image editors may not do as good a job on. I did not have a problem with Corel Photopaint correctly saving the TGA file format in the enhanced format (24-bit) so that the image looks correctly in NWN.

We found the jaguar TGA texture file in the Model Viewer directory, and made a backup copy of it for the original. Then opened it in Corel and made the Scary Clown changes to it and saved it (in the enhanced TGA format). Then we opened it in the Model Viewer to verify what it looked like, and we liked it. Then we used the DDS Compression tool we downloaded and made a Scary Clown Hak Pak, and created a new module file and added the Scary Clown Hak Pak to the custom content of the new module. Then we added a Jaguar into the new module, and it automatically knows to use the Scary Clown Hak Pak jaguar texture that we added to the module.

Our next step is to follow the follow-on tutorial that will explain how to create a new custom creature blue print. This will allow us to create our own Scary Clown Jaguar, instead of using the standard Jaguar as the default animal for the Scary Clown effects. I believe this next tutorial will show us how to copy the model file for the jaguar and save it as Scary Clown Jaguar, and tie that specifically to the Scary Clown texture, so that one can use both Standard Jaguars and Scary Clown Jaguars at the same time.

We'll update you all after this next step. We'll look at eventually creating an entire Scary Clown Hak Pak of legions of animals, artifacts, etc. for Chris and Daniel :-)

Oh, if you are interested, I can post our current Scary Clown Hak Pak for you viewing pleasure. I can put it in my new FTP server. Hopefully eventually somebody will try that out and let me know if it is actually working. It is at:

ftp://wyrmraiders.servegame.org

It should point you directly at my NWN server.
